Happy Barkday America - The Day After

OMdOG what a night! I hardly slept...those darn fireworks kept me (Ruby's Mom: and Me) up all night! These things are scawie! Seriously anything that can literally scare the poop out of my BFF Suki is just not right!

From checking in with your blogs it sounds like a lot of you pups don't like them either. Why do the silly hoomans like them so much???

Mom took me to show me where people buy these darn things...here's a stand around the corner from where we live...

RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!! Oh, and just about every other corner too. What's so great about these things? My Mom and I Googled to see if we could find out. Here's something we found...
The day will be most memorable in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival...It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade...bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore.
John Adams, July 3rd, 1776
So this Adams dude was talking about July 4th. Do YOU see anything about fireworks? No, but in the silly story (Ruby's Mom: Ruby, the story wasn't silly, it was very informative)we found that 'illuminations' means fireworks. I thought Illuminations was a candle store at the mall (my Mom told me to say that)...not those dreaded evil fireworks. So I guess everyone was so happy that they signed that Declaration thingy and won the war against the King that they started shooting these fireworks to celebrate!

Now I do like celebrating (especially if there are snackies involved)...but do we have to celebrate with these things? They are just so noisy and make me very jumpy, and I can't sleep because I'm afraid they are going to come and get me and my Mom (Ruby's Mom: Awww Ruby, thanks for protecting me, but it really isn't necessary. The fireworks aren't going to hurt us, especially when we are inside.)

Here I am standing at attention with my bully stick for protection!

So I don't think I like 4th of July anymore. At least not the fireworks part of it. Thank dogginess it's over!!! I'm going to go sleep now.

Note From Ruby's Mom, Michele: It was a really rough night for Ruby. The fireworks really freaked her out. Just when she would settle a new round would go off and get her going again. I think I need to take a page out of Tucker & Dot's Mom and get some special 'firework pills' from the Vet for next year.

You have my sympathy Ruby. I hate them too and they seem to go off every weekend through the summer here, then on our "fireworks night" on Nov 6th , then at Christmas, then at New Year...

Over here you can get a plug in thing called a DAP diffuser that emits something that's supposed to calm us down (some pheromone or some big word). My mum is going to see about getting one as I camp out under the dining table and won't come out for food, to go toilet or anything.

oh, i agree about that 4th of july terrierfying noise. and then my own dad goes and does it in my own yard!

and thanks for sharing that quote - this john adams person just said we are to have illuminations - he didn't say anything about them having to be LOUD. my mom explained that the difference between firecrackers and fireworks is that while they both make a bang, at least one makes pretty illuminations in the sky. my dad was using the BAD kind, and all they did was make a very stinky smell and then a very LOUD BANG. i wonder what's wrong with my daddy.

Luckie Girl said... 9:07 AM

Oh dear...seems like those noise was quite bad huh? It's banned in Singapore cos the authorities say it's dangerous. So yeah...

There are so many fireworks here for any fiesta there is.

And people - especially children - like to throw bangers around in the street.

Whenever I hear them I remember how frightened I was when I lived on the street.

But master and mistress shut all the windows (and shutters) and doors so the house is dark and quiet.

And it soon passes so we all go to sleep.

Don't worry, Ruby.

I don't like firework-holidays either. The fireworks don't scare me (Because I am very brave) but they get really annoying! At least 4th of July is done and 5th of July is here. :)

Oh yes. I totally agree. Fireworks should be BANNED. As should those people who were shooting at me last night.

Oh Ruby... I don't like them either. It actually was not that bad last night. As soon as I heard them, I went upstairs and crawled under the bed... then got in the bathtub. Get some rest today beautiful!

Oh, Ruby! So sorry you were scared and up late. Porter didn't mind the fireworks... but that probably has something to do with being bred to be a hunting dog! Maybe some nice puppy Prozac and cotton in the ears next year? Hope you feel better!

Awwww, poor Ruby. I'm so sorry you were so scared :( I wish I could have been there. We could have just watched some chick flicks while eating popcorn (my new favorite food!) to take your mind off it.

I think your Mom's idea of some puppy druggies for next year is a good idea. Or she could just go pick some of those shrooms. Hehehe!

I know what you mean, Ruby. I had to keep my ma awake too to make sure she didn't get hurt! I cry and want to get into the bed with her. So last night she closed the windows, turned on the air, and turned up the TV and it wasn't as bad as usual (other than the tv noise). She is tempted by the idea of those firework pills. I have a little thunderstorm issue, too.

Hey Ruby! Sounds like you were a Boston Terrified! Isaac was out for a walk and one went off right near him and he was startled. But the rest of the time we were staunch defenders of our home. Sorry you had such a bad night.

Ruby Girl!

I'm so ticked I could spit in the eye of everyone there in Sacramento. Sorry to hear the fireworks worked you up so much. If I had been there you could have curled up in between my paws for a sound-proof evening of love and cuddles. (Maybe next year).

On a lighter note, that full-body shot of you is AMAZING! I never knew just how *sleek* and svelte you are. And, I also noticed that you are wearing white go go boots on your front paws! You're totally stylin'.

Appreciated the history lesson. (My girl goes gaga over history).

Goober kisses,
Stanny

I agree with u Ruby. Those exploding thingys are just not right. They scare me too (but not as much as storms do). Instead of spending tons of money on those exploding things, they should just buy us tons of treats and throw those in the air! U think??

Gwyn Valentine said... 1:27 AM

Seems like lots of my friends there at the USA hate the fireworks noise. I bet it must be really terrifying.
I agree with Toby, the next time they do it, do it with treats!

I'm sorry you didn't like the boomthingys. I promise they won't hurt you! I wanted Mom to take my photo with the pretty colors in the background but she had to work. Maybe next year. Love, Martha

Awww, poor Ruby. We're sorry those mean old fireworks scared you. We know what you mean, it's been like a war zone around our house all week. We sure are glad we don't have to hear those loud booms anymore for another year.

Hi, Ruby.
If your mom can't get those pills next year, you can come to stay with me and my mom. I promise you very quiet days!
Have a nice day

Bentley and Niko said... 7:24 PM

They are noisy! We didn't have too many by us probably because its so dry and hot its dangerous to light too many things.

The Brat Pack said... 9:08 PM

Oh Ruby, we're sorry you had a bad night. Dot and I don't remember much to be honest. Mom doesn't like to drug us, but we get so stressed out that we throw up and stuff and it's just not pretty. So instead we get those and we're kinda loopy but we don't care about the booms anymore!

Sending love,
Tucker

We tried to leave you messages, and Bloggie kept seizing up on us!
We're very patriotic pups, but we're glad all the KABOOMS are over for a while! It's just too loud!
Stop by our blog today; I think we found a picture of you! :)
Love,

Poor Ruby! Mommy is sure the reason I slept through the fireworks is because I played so hard with all the womens and childrens at the 4th of July festival before dark. Mom says I was a total chick magnet that night and if she was a man she would have been in "hog heaven," wherever that is. Next year when I'm a little bigger I'll protect the humans. Grruff!
